The New York Giants have officially signed New York City-based fitness startup Fitness Place.
The company announced the signing on Tuesday, just one day before the NFL Draft, which is scheduled for May 28.
The Giants also announced that they will hold a training camp and preseason event in early 2019, with a home opener on May 23.
Picking up the pieces after years of injury, the team’s franchise tag expires at the end of the season.
They have previously said they are looking to add a new team to their roster, but a number of free agent moves remain, including the signing of former San Francisco 49ers defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul.
Fitness Place has also announced it will open a gym in Brooklyn, where it has been training in the past.
We are very excited to partner with Fitness Place, which has already brought together elite athletes from around the world for their personal training programs, said Ben Schiraldi, Fitness Place’s founder and CEO.
New York Giants President Phil Savage said in a statement that he is “pleased to welcome the new Fitness Place team to our family of sports franchises.”
The signing of Fitness Place follows a number other signings by the team this week, including an acquisition of the team apparel brand, the New Balance brand, and the purchase of a portion of the Giants’ new stadium in New Jersey.
Signing up the New Yorkers in New York was not an easy decision for the team, as the team has had no other major sports teams in the area since 2007.
However, with the signing, the Giants now have a home base in the city that has been home to the team for decades.
In addition to the Giants, the franchise also announced Tuesday that it has acquired the team mascot, the Go-Goo.
The Go-Go was created to promote the team on the football field and was first introduced in 1992 by former Giants players Greg Bird and Mark McGwire.
The team has a history of being on the cutting edge of fitness and nutrition in sports.
The team has participated in the National Institutes of Health’s CrossFit program, the United Nations’ Red Cross and has had a partnership with Dr. Oz.
