It’s a question that has been asked many times in the last couple of years, with gymgoers looking for the best options for their workouts and getting what they need at the gym.
A new study has thrown the balance of power towards the gym and fitness industry in one way or another.
The findings are not exactly shocking.
The study from University of Sydney’s Health and Fitness Industry Research Centre (HIFIC) and the University of Newcastle in Australia looked at data from around 30,000 people over the course of a year.
Researchers looked at how people use gym equipment, how much time they spend in the gym, and how many hours in a day they spend exercising.
They then compared the results to other measures of fitness, such as hours worked and exercise intensity.
The results were clear.
It’s the gym that really matters in terms of both physical fitness and health, the researchers found.
“It’s hard to argue with the findings from the study, especially in light of the fact that the majority of Australians are gym goers,” HIFIC CEO Peter McBride told news.com, “And the evidence suggests that it is the gym where people spend most of their time.”
The findings from this study suggest that the benefits of a gym are in fact far greater than the negatives, McBride added.

This is a developing story.
